Kanji in Context Full Review

It's been a little while in coming, but I finally finished the Kanji in Context workbooks. So, I've now put up a full review here:
http://www.nihongoperapera.com/reviews/kanji-in-context.html

These books have my highest recommendation. I learned a few thousand words and about 1000 kanji in about three months. Of course, I also had to work hard to get to that level, but without these books, I never would have made it so fast so quickly.

Also, Amazon Japan has them in stock at the moment, which is always nice.

New Page for Beginners

Since I've been getting a lot of questions from those starting the study of Japanese today, I threw this page together:

I'll be adding more soon.

Remembering the Kanji Review

I just put up a short review of Heisig's Remembering the Kanji. I had been intending to do this for awhile, and a post in the forum today reminded me to do so.

Here it is:

New section to the spaced repetition software review

After some comments from Anki users, I am in the process of taking another hard look at Anki. A lot of my confusion stemmed from the fact that when I originally reviewed Anki, I thought it was brand new software (6 months old), and when I found it full of bugs I treated it accordingly.

More review updates

More updates to the review today and general housekeeping.

Updated review of Mnemosyne/Anki

In response to a tip in the forums, I have fixed several inaccuracies in the original review. I also added SuperMemo, thinking that it would add to the depth of the review if both programs were compared against the original.

I also addressed issues of documentation and support, two categories notably absent from my initial review.

Still working on some new stuff

Don't worry; I haven't forgotten about the site. I've been busy trying to get some Mnemosyne databases ready for your learning pleasure.

Forums Added, All Japanese All the Time Review, Mnemosyne section updated

Today I added a small forums section so that instead of people contacting me directly, we can all talk publicly about the best way to study Japanese.

Also, a few minor updates: I added my thoughts about the site www.alljapaneseallthetime.com in the links section.

I also did some basic cleanup of the Mnemosyne area, which will be expanding significantly very soon.

Mnemosyne Review Added

Today I added a new Mnemosyne section to begin covering the spaced repetition open source memory flash card programs (wow, that's a mouthful).

As the first bit, I added a comparison between Mnemosyne and Anki. This is more of a "first look" than a full review, and I'll be adding the rest shortly.

There will also be a major comparison with SuperMemo.

New Links page, much more on the way soon

Today just a minor update-- a new links page to collect some of the highlights from around the net for all of you.

The big news will be coming shortly, and it involves spaced repetition software (SuperMemo and the like). Although I've been an ardent support of SuperMemo since I discovered it last year, it has a long list of bugs and rather poor support for Unicode (meaning Japanese).
